Things a Muslim should avoid
Harmful things.
Or things that do not benefit us.
Or things that do not benefit us.
Things that make us grow distant from our Lord.
Things that make us forget and delay the duties we owe to Him.
Things that Shaytan uses to trap us.
Things that make us heedless of our destination.
Some people might think that telling them apart is easy.
And in some cases, it is.
But in others, the line between what we think is good and what we think is evil can become blurred.
Because we have normalized sins.
Convincing ourselves that they are not that bad.
Let’s explore some of them:
1) Gossip and backbiting
“And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it.” [49:12]
2) Delaying salah
Narrated ‘Abdullah: I asked the Prophet ﷺ,
Narrated ‘Abdullah: I asked the Prophet ﷺ,
“Which deed is most beloved to Allah?”
He replied, “To offer the prayers at their early fixed times.” [Bukhari]
3) Showing off
The Prophet ﷺ was asked,
The Prophet ﷺ was asked,
“What is the lesser shirk, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said, “It is ostentation.”
[Musnad Ahmad]
4) Envying others
The Prophet ﷺ said:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Beware of envy, for envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood.” [Abu Dawud]
5) Following desires
“And do not follow desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah.” [38:26]
“And do not follow desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah.” [38:26]
6) Breaking promises
The Prophet ﷺ said:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The signs of a hypocrite are three:
When he speaks, he lies.
When he promises, he breaks his promise.
When he speaks, he lies.
When he promises, he breaks his promise.
When he is entrusted, he betrays.”
[Bukhari]

If, after reading this, you find yourself slipping into any of these sins,
Use this as a reminder to repent.
Do not justify it.
Do not delay it.
Do not normalize it.
Do not delay it.
Do not normalize it.
Every small sin repeated becomes a habit.
Every habit shapes the heart.
And the heart determines your ending.
Every habit shapes the heart.
And the heart determines your ending.
Return before you become comfortable.
Correct it before it becomes part of you.
One of the most practical ways to stay consistent is to engage with the Qur’an regularly.
Not just to read it.
But to pause and ask:

But to pause and ask:
"Where am I in this?"
Juz 30 Qur’an Journal was created to help you do exactly that.
It takes you through the surahs you already recite in prayer and gives you guided prompts to reflect, write, and apply what you are reading to your own life.
So the reminder does not pass over you.
It lands.

May Allah protect your heart from heedlessness, keep you firm upon what is right, and bless you always with awareness of Him in every step you take.
