المقال: The Muslim Guide to Balance and Barakah

The Muslim Guide to Balance and Barakah

“There is a time for everything.”
And in Islam, that is more true than anywhere else.
Our primary purpose in this life is to worship Allah, as He says in the Qur’an:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
"And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."[51:56]
But that does not mean we isolate ourselves from the world.
It does not mean we spend every moment in prayer and neglect the responsibilities of life.
Even the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not do that, and he ﷺ did not discourage others from enjoying what is good and pure.
He ﷺ lived with balance.
He ﷺ prayed, worked, spent time with his family, and rested.
Islam encourages moderation, not extremes.
It was narrated from Anas رضي الله عنه that a group of the Companions said:
“One of us will not marry.”
Another said: “I will not eat meat.”
Another said: “I will not sleep on a bed.”
Another said: “I will fast and never break my fast.”
When the Prophet ﷺ heard this, he said:
“What is the matter with people who say such things?
I pray and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I marry women.
Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.” [Sunan an-Nasa’i]
We follow the way of the Prophet ﷺ.
A way that brings us closer to Allah without neglecting our needs as humans.
Here are three ways to divide your time and live with more balance.

1) An Hour with Allah ﷻ (Worship)
Set aside time for Qur’an, Salah, Duʿā, and Dhikr.
This time is best at Fajr, after Fajr, or before sleep when the world is quiet.
Spend 10–15 minutes reciting Qur’an and reflecting on its meaning.
Make duʿā with focus and sincerity.
Say SubḥānAllāh,
Alḥamdulillāh,
Lā ilāha illallāh,
Allāhu akbar.
Remind yourself of Allah’s blessings and mercy.
Even a short hour can fill the heart with peace and clarity.
It strengthens the connection between you and your Creator and sets the tone for the rest of your day.

2) An Hour with Oneself (Reflection)
Take time to sit with your thoughts and review your day.
Think about what you did right and what you can improve.
Ask yourself:
This habit builds awareness and sincerity.
It helps you notice where your heart needs cleaning and where your efforts need direction.
Reflection brings growth, and growth brings you closer to Allah.
Even journaling or a dhikr walk can help you process your day.

If you want more structure in this hour,
start with tools that make reflection easier.
The Juz 30 Qur’an Journal helps you slow down.
The Qur’anic Duʿās book gives you clarity in your duʿā.
Both keep your mind focused and your heart present.
3) An Hour for Halal Pleasures (Rest & Balance)
Spend time enjoying what is halal and good.
Rest, spend time with your family, go for a walk, read, or do something creative.
These are not distractions. They are part of maintaining balance.
When you rest, your worship becomes stronger.
When you spend time with loved ones, your heart becomes softer.

Islam does not call us to disconnect from the world.
It calls us to live within it with purpose and moderation.
Allowing yourself rest prevents burnout.
It keeps your heart steady and your energy clean.
Balance between worship, reflection, and rest brings barakah in time.

Each part of your day has its place.
When time is spent with intention, even ordinary moments become acts of worship.
A balanced life is not complicated.
It is built through small choices that are made with sincerity.

An hour for Allah.
An hour for yourself.
An hour for the good of this world.

May Allah give you balance in your worship, your rest, and your heart.
مع حبي (with love),
Eternah
