المقال: The 3 Types of Sabr Every Muslim Should Know

The 3 Types of Sabr Every Muslim Should Know

There isn’t a lot we can accomplish in this world without perseverance
That ability to keep fighting for what is good
What is right
What we love
What we dream about
That’s sabr
It’s one of the virtues our Lord associates with the Prophets in the Qur’an
It’s part of the Sunnah
And it’s a quality we need now more than ever in this Ummah
Are you aware of the types of sabr and why they matter?

1) Sabr in Obedience
Holding yourself steady in prayer
In fasting
In worship
“Be patient over what they say and glorify your Lord…” [50:39]
Obedience is not always easy
But every act of worship trains the heart
It builds discipline against the nafs
Sabr in obedience is proof of love
A sign that you prefer His pleasure over your comfort

2) Sabr in Avoiding Sin
Resisting temptation even when no one is watching.
This is sabr of the unseen
Where no praise is given
And no one claps for you
But Allah sees
And He prepares your reward
Imagine every sin you leave
Is a brick placed on the path to Jannah

3) Sabr During Hardships
Remaining strong in loss
In pain
In grief
“Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” [2:153]
This is the hardest sabr
When the test cuts deep
When the heart feels heavy
When life feels unbearable
Yet this is also the sabr with great closeness to Allah
Because He has promised His company
And His company is enough
Sabr is not just about waiting
It’s about holding firm
Staying steady
Choosing Allah at every step
Allah sees your effort
He records your patience
And He never leaves the patient empty-handed
"Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account [i.e., limit]." [39:11]

Patience is not just waiting.
It is choosing Allah at every step.
And the Qur’an is what strengthens that choice, reminding us of His promises in hardship, in obedience, and in resisting sin.
That is why we created the Juz 30 Qur’an Journal.
It focuses on the Surahs we recite most in prayer and helps you:
  • Reflect on their lessons
  • Write down your thoughts
  • Build consistency in connecting with the Qur’an

May Allah grant you the strength to obey Him with patience
The courage to avoid what He has forbidden
And the endurance to face hardship with trust in Him

مع حبي (with love),
Eternah
